Clarens:  The Prynnsberg Estate

Built in 1881 by Kimberley Diamond Magnate Charles Newberry and his wife Elizabeth, the Prynnsberg Estate is situated in the picturesque sandstone belt in the Eastern Free State. Variously described as ‘the architectural Jewel of the Eastern Free State’, an ‘imperial misadventure’ and ‘Newberry’s folly in the veld’, Prynnsberg Manor was the realisation of Charles and Elizabeth Newberry’s romantic vision of the creation of a classic English Country estate in an untamed part of  Africa. Prynnsberg Manor still stands today and while Prynnsberg remains a private Estate and is not open to walk-in visitors, it has now opened its doors to a select few on a prearranged basis with our all-new luxury Bushman Cave Glamping site available for bookings. Repose beneath the canvas of our luxuriously appointed Victorian army officers' campaign tents, explore our beautiful grounds, enjoy a relaxing bubble bath in our open-air Victorian Bathhouse or just relax and enjoy a glass of wine at the Bushman Deck. The Prynnseberg Estate is the ideal spot to get away from the city and experience Africa as it was during the golden age of African exploration in the 1800s.
